If you ask any teacher about what is the most challenging part of their teaching, most of them will say that it is to encourage the desire amongst the students to learn and not run after grades only. If you are a teacher of a pre-primary and nursery school in NIT & greater Faridabad you should start inculcating in your student's mind the desire to learn new things. Some of the best Smart schools in Neharpar & Greater Faridabad are working overtime to reduce the grade obsession in the minds of the students and their parents and replace it with a desire to learn.
To do this
successfully, you as a teacher have to shift the overall classroom environment
away from the grade obsession. You can do this in multiple ways some of which are
given here for your ready reference.
Change the way you converse with the students
Giving threats like, you will get lower grades
will never encourage a child to learn something new on the other hand, it will
only frighten him or her which will make your task of educating them that much harder.
Therefore, you can start the conversation like you have done this part of your
study so well let us see how you will perform in this new task. This will encourage them for their past performance and also a challenge
to repeat it when learning something new. Such a language that focuses on
learning rather than on grades would do your students a world of good.
Delay
the grades
As a teacher, you should try this practice of
delaying the delivery of the grades of the students so that their focus turns
from how much they have got to what feedback the teacher is giving them. You
can make brief notes about each student and then give them to them which will
help them about what corrections are needed in their work. You could also
discuss with them the concept more comprehensively so that they understand it
and use it to solve the problems that you are given them.
Offers
them a chance for a retake
Many times, a student may not feel well or up
to the mark to give a test or complete an assignment in time. If you try to
grade them for those trying times then it would surely discourage them.
Instead, give them a chance to retake the test so that they can learn it even
better and give the test to get it right the next time. If the students know
that their entire learning experience does not depend upon a single test, then
they will feel less pressure and would focus their attention more on studying
new things rather than obsessing after grades.
